PCN-TOPAZ-J
Number: PCN-TOPAZ-J
Issue Date: 25 Nov 2020
Implementation Date: TBD
Samples: email support@devicesolutions.net
Description:
This revision updates the power management functions on Topaz. This is a change from the NXP MC3704 part to a TI 65051.
Reason for change:
The NXP power management IC (PMIC) used on Topaz has been discontinued.
Customer action required: Potential hardware design impact
Changes to the Topaz interface and functionality have been kept to a minimum with this update, however, customers should check 2 areas of their base-board design:
- Use of 3V3 power from Topaz
- Use of unique NXP MC3704 signals
3.3V Power
The MC34704 incorporated two 3.3V rails, labeled 3V3_Reg2 and 3V3_Reg5.
The TI PMIC also has 2 3.3V rails, but the configuration is different. Key differences are:
- This rail is no longer switchable and is ON when Topaz starts where it was previously OFF.
- Capacity has been reduced from 500mA to 400mA
- The regulator has changed from a switcher to an LDO
If any of these changes will have an impact on your design, contact support@devicesolutions.net.
MC34704 Signals
The following signals/functionality are not supported (and not connected) on the new design:
- ON/OFF
- PSU_LION. There is no longer any battery support.
- VLED. There is no support for the boost and buck/boosts rails for LCDs.
- I2C. The NXP PMIC was controllable via I2C, but the new PMIC does not have this capability.
